Laura Watson - Event and Competition Yard

A bit about yours truly!!

From a young age I have had the drive and ambition to be successful in competitive sports. I won and held most records in athletic events at school, captaining my county Netball  teams at Under 14 and Under 16 levels and was selected for England training squads for both age groups. Horses, however, have always been my overriding passion.

Unlike the majority of my contempories in the eventing world, I come from a non horsey background and I have had to work hard for what I've achieved.  My ponies were mainly other peoples 'naughty castoffs' but they all taught me paitence and determination. However getting bucked off at the majority of shows I went to did get tiring, but then again it taught me how to stick on!

During my pony club years I concentrated on eventing and Tetrathlon, culminating in becoming pony club Tetrathlete of the year, but it was a chance letter in 2004 to Jeanette Brakewell and Brook Staples which provided me with the opportunity to take my ambiton further.  I started working for them in the summer of 2005 straight from finishing my GCSEs. In my time there I learn so much, got the chance to compete my own horses and those of Brook's owners and most definitely got bitten by the eventing bug! I took a short break from there in 2007, when I spent time in America working in a summer camp teaching riding and was also lucky enough to spend some time working for Phillip Dutton at his yard in Pennsylvania.  A fantastic education in itself!

After spending 2008 back at Jeanette and Brook's, 2009 was the year I decided to fly the nest and concentrate on my own ambitions. I have set up home at the lovely yard belonging to Liz Taylor and Tony Hawley.  I am very fortunate to have found such helpful landlords and really do feel at home now.

I am lucky to have gathered this team of horses and their supportive owners in such a short space of time.  So here is looking to a sucssesful season ahead!!!
